Do We Know İstanbul? Reading the City’s History from Coins

This lecture, through coins, will discuss some of the significant events or issues of the social and cultural history of the long period from the founding of Istanbul to the end of the Ottoman Empire and will shed light on the city’s unknown or lesser-known aspects. The lecture will also address current issues such as the debates about the founding of İstanbul as a colony and how the Yenikapı and Beşiktaş excavations can be interpreted.
