Fifties’ Modernism and İlhan Usmanbaş

This series of talks accompanying the exhibition Republic: New Individual New Life bring to light new interpretations of the Republic through culture, art, and aesthetic creativity; in doing so, they witness the adventures of modernism in recent history, focusing on the concepts of “New Individual” and “New Life”. Concentrating on figures representing the “New Individual”, from the fields of archaeology, contemporary music, architecture, to literature, such as Halet Çambel, Ahmed Adnan Saygun, İlhan Usmanbaş, Sedad Hakkı Eldem, Turgut Cansever, Oktay Rifat, and Muhsin Ertuğrul, the series will also explore the cultural content of the “New Life” through a socialization project taking as its subject Karpiç restaurant. These “New Individual New Life Talks” will also offer a platform for the discussion of the reconstruction of the Republic.
