Annual of İstanbul Studies No.2

The second issue of the Annual of İstanbul Studies consists of two sections focusing on archaeology and Ottoman history. The first section is entitled “Archaeological Research at the Küçükçekmece Lake Basin.” Begun in 2009 under the direction of Assistant Professor Dr. Şengül Aydıngün from Kocaeli University Department of Archaeology, the ongoing excavation and the findings are analyzed by Aydıngün, Professor Dr. Mustafa Sayar, Professor Dr. Oğuz Tekin, and two archaeologists from the excavation team, Dürdane Kaya and Ahmet Aslan. The second section is entitled “İstanbul during the Reign of Mahmud II.” The research in this section focuses on the urban transformation of İstanbul, public buildings, and architectural styles, constituting an important contribution to the literature on the subject.
